MUSIC @ OPC
Music is a vital and uplifting part of our worship experience at OPC. The chancel choir and hand bell choir are an ongoing part of our music ministry. We also rejoice in having special music from our children, instrumentalists, vocalists, contemporary combo, and special services featuring unique and new arrangements performed by many voices and instruments together.
Our Choir & Music Opportunities
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir provides music on Sunday mornings. The mission of this choir is to enhance the worship experience through music coordination topical musical content with sermon themes and Scripture readings, as well as with seasonal and liturgical observances. Led by Kent Peterson (Director) and accompanied by Lynn Jacobs (Organist), the Chancel Choir enhances our worship experience with a variety of musical styles. Practice is held on Thursday evenings, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., and on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. For more information use the Online Contact Form or call the church office,(513) 523-6364. Children & Youth Choir
When worship will include a special occasion for our children to sing, children and youth gather to be a part of the Children & Youth Choir. Practice is held during their regular Sunday School time, directed by Joan Hoover and accompanied by Mary Jane Roberts. Children of all ages are welcome and encouraged to take part. Contemporary Combo
New in 2011, a Contemporary Combo band was formed in order to enhance the worship experience. The band, led by Joe Fultz, is comprised of those who wish to play music of a little more contemporary style in order to enhance the worship experience. Currently the combo includes the conga, alto sax, tuba, and bass guitar. However, there is room for growth. Practices are held at Joe's home four to five weeks before the special occasions when the Contemporary Combo will be participating in worship.
Instrumentalists
On special occasions we have been blessed with the music of instrumentalists who share their music ministry with us during worship. These music offerings have included individuals who may be members of our congregation, groups and students from Miami University and Talawanda High School, and even a guest bagpiper who brought with him his wife and daughter to perform traditional Scottish dances.
